Noh Masks

Just a few of the amazing masks I got to see last week on the Noh Training Project in Reading - now I'm in Tokyo that course feels a LONG way away now. No-one I've met so far knows anything about Noh, and even less about traditional Japanese storytelling. I'll have to be patient. Gah!

The most interesting mask, for most of us, was the jealous middle aged woman with horns (apparently traditional in Japanese performance) - she looks fierce and ugly, but then if you cover everything but eyes she looks suicidally unhappy. Disturbing but brilliant piece of engineering.
